Last Thursday saw the first installment of Cube3’s five-a-side football games. Due to the absence of a few members, this week was a rather painful 4 vs 4 – painful due to the blazing hot sun and the fitness levels of a few team members (Chris!).

Martin, Cube3’s web designer extraordinaire, organised the event which took part at the Power League 5-a-side pitches on the outskirts of Bolton.

This weeks teams were:

• White Team: Chris, Paul I, Andy and Martin’s friend Liam
• Red Team: Martin, Kieran, Paul B and Dave (not the legendary Wilson, but another of Martin’s friends)

The first half was a whitewash with the Red team romping home with goals from Martin, Paul B and Dave. The second half saw the white team, re-energised by half time orange juice, score the majority of goals whilst keeping the Red team relatively quiet.

Highlights of the match included:

• Andy spending more time on the ground than on his feet due to a poor choice of footwear (see photo below)
• Kieran spending a large portion of the second half in goal for the Red team.
• Chris “20-a-day” Owens spending 1/4 of the second half in goal and becoming the “wall” of the white team – and then spending the rest of the match gasping for oxygen.
• The rather long walk to and from the cars due to the teams parking on the wrong car park.
• Paul I getting nutmegged and left for dead (see photo below).
• Paul B’s superior fitness meant he spent half time still playing – whilst the rest of the players collapsed from exhaustion.

The teams were cheered on by Studio Manager Lisa (and her son James) and Creative Director Karen (and her daughter Lana). Cube3 Managing Director Karl Barker, who was originally scheduled to play as part of the white team had to pull out due to other commitments, but graciously agreed to pay the pitch fees.

Team Cube3 are looking to make this a regular occurrence and invite clients and local companies alike to get in touch should they be interested in a friendly 5-a-side match in Bolton.
